The 1st Smash and Grab Energy Efficient Light Bulb Exchange

We all realize by now that our climate is changing and most of us feel helpless to do anything about it. Most measures we can take seem insignificant, but replacing incandescent light bulbs makes a significant contribution. This is an act that immediately reduces CO2 emmissions and can give us all the satisfaction of knowing that we are making a difference now.

The incandescent light bulb is obsolete and is even illegal in some countries. The biggest, most immediate impact you personally can have on global warming, next to giving up driving, is to replace all light bulbs in your house with energy efficient bulbs such as CFL (compact fluorescent) and LED (light emitting diode) bulbs. The goal of the Smash and Grab is remove as many incandescent bulbs as possible from the environment and replace them with CFL bulbs.

Exchanging incandescent light bulbs for compact fluorescent bulbs is the single most effective, practical measure an individual can take to reduce energy usage.

• Thirty six percent of home energy consumption is used for lighting
• Each incandescent light bulb you replace with a CFL bulb saves $30-60 and 463 lbs of CO2 over its lifetime
• CFL bulbs last 8-10 times longer than incandescent bulbs
• Replacing 25% of the incandescent bulbs in your house with CFL will save 50% of lighting energy used

Donating to Smash and Grab: 

• Reduces CO2 emissions by 463 lbs for each bulb during its lifetime
• Each $1.00 contributed is effectively purchasing a carbon offset of 300 lbs of CO2.
• Each $1.50 contributed will provide a reduction in electricity payments equal to as much as $15/yr for an individual or family providing economic stimulation – Each CFL bulb will give an individual or family as much as $15/yr extra to spend
• You will receive a Carbon Offset Certificate staing the amount of CO2 that has been kept out of the atmosphere, and the amount you are gifting a local family in the form of electric bill reduction, as a result  of your donation
• All contributors will be listed on the Smash and Grab website
• All contributors will be allowed to use the Smash and Grab logo for advertising, PR and marketing purposes 

Any bulbs not exchanged during the event itself will be donated to non-profit service organizations for distribution to retired people.

Event:

• April 18-20, 2008 
• Anyone who brings in an incandescent bulb and to be broken will receive a new CFL bulb in exchange – limit 5/person. While supply lasts

Contribute:

Send checks payable to: Inspection Perfection - for Smash and Grab, Mail to: Inspection Perfection, 386 Quartz Circle, Bailey, CO 80421. You will receive a carbon offset certificate equal to 300 lbs/year of CO2 emission for each dollar contributed. 100% of your donation will go for the wholesale purchase of CFL bulbs to given away at this event and/or by non-profit service organizations.
